First post, final build?

Hey everyone,

Welcome to the newly revamped spacealtctrl.net.
The site has recently been converted into a proper blog, and it felt fitting that the first post should be an honest update about where things are heading. The "+" tab explains a bit more about the site itself.

If you're here, you probably know me as the person maintaining the unofficial crDroid build for the Sony Xperia 1 V (pdx234). Over the past week, I've been doing some reading and thinking about the future of the project.

A discussion in the DerpFest Telegram chat when asking the difference's between the two ROMS led me to pranavvashi.com from the hashtag #whycrdroidsucks I was sent, this site documents allegations that crDroid has repeatedly incorporated work from other ROM projects while removing or changing attribution. The site includes commit histories, screenshots, and links to the original code.

I'm not interested in debating every example or assigning blame. What mattered to me was the broader question of transparency and credit in open-source development. After reading through the material, I came away feeling that crDroid is no longer the project I want to build or run on my own device.

The Decision

The next Xperia 1 V crDroid build I release, v12.11 will be the final one from me.
(crDroid donation links and popups removed from this build)

Going forward, I'll be moving my daily driver to DerpFest. With a planned release soon.

The microG Part microG

One thing worth mentioning is that the DerpFest builds for the Xperia 1 V that I will ship come with microG and signature spoofing instead of GApps.
Unfortunately, official DerpFest builds ship with GApps preinstalled for all devices. So this is my workaround.

I know that won't suit everyone. Some users prefer having the full Google experience available out of the box, and others may simply just prefer to stay on the crDroid ROM. That's completely understandable.

For me, this is partly a privacy decision. I prefer to reduce my reliance on Google's services where possible while still maintaining compatibility with the apps I actually use. microG provides a practical middle ground, offering support for many applications that expect Google Play Services without requiring the full Google stack.

This probably won't come as a surprise to many people. I maintain the 'microG Installer Revived.... again' project, so my preference for microG is hardly a secret. Shipping it by default simply reflects how I choose to run my device.

Maintaining a device port takes a lot of time, and if I'm going to keep doing it, I want it to reflect both how I use my phone and the values that matter to me.

What's Next?

  • One final crDroid build is coming later today.
  • Existing crDroid builds will remain available for a limited time.
  • I'll continue providing support where I can.
  • Sony camera apps, Dolby, Aurora Store, and root support will remain priorities going forward.

I'm already working hard in my free time bringing this microG version of DerpFest to the device. The current focus is getting everything functional and polished, with microG properly integrated. There's still work to do before I'd consider it ready for daily use, but progress is being made and I'll share updates as things develop.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has flashed, tested, reported bugs, and supported previous builds. Your feedback has made the project worthwhile.

And thanks to both the crDroid and DerpFest communities for the work they've done, and for the conversations that helped shape this decision.

Over and out,

Shame to see CR coming to an end but I'm excited to see what comes from your development of MicroG Derpfest!

I appreciate your integrity and respect your decision to direct your energy in a direction that fits your values. I've been running your crdroid builds since they first came out and am excited to try out Derpfest. Thank you for continuing to support this device.

Looking forward to seeing all of the "can I dirty flash this from crDroid?" Posts on XDA

🩵🤣 Thank you, and everyone, for the kind replies.

Everyone should be pleased to know I’ve been dirty flashing between ROMs frequently and have managed to keep my data intact for a while now without a full reset 😁 I’ll try to keep it that way for easier migration for anyone interested.

    Hi !

First of all thanks for all your hard work ! It's been 4 months that I'm trying to buy a Xperia 1 V only because of your ROM and most of all your tweaks to completely hide root and show a valid device to Google.

3 years ago I bricked my Poco X3 Pro (vayu) so I've tested crDroid 1 week, it had crashes, not really stable so I switched against to DerpFest from A14 to A16 without ever wanting to change it. Sadly my vayu died.
So yeah I'm really glad and hyped for your DerpFest ROM ! Plus I really enjoyed DerpFest but I was sad that they never wanted to ship a vanilla version without GApps and I was scared when I've read this post so I was really happy to see that you'll be shipping it with microG !

I think in 1 week I'll get my phone but I would really want to be able to use DerpFest on it after I unlock the bootloader so that I don't have to install your previous crDroid ROM and then wipe my device and switch to DerpFest. If it would be able to update from a test version to a release version I'll be interested and glas to test it if you want !

Thanks and have a great day !

Let me know how you get on when you get it.
I may also need a new 1 V, as mine is falling apart 😢

Thanks for efforts, can you also build one still with GApps, or without microG so that I can flash GApps by myself? I have to use some paid apps from PlayStore.

I won't be I'm afraid. I don't use Gapps, So I will only focus on one build.
I have been able to get everything I need to run using microG.
